La Monte treble overshadowed by player injury

Football West News

Ellie La Monte scored a 14-minute hat-trick before Queens Park’s Women’s Premier League clash against Stirling Panthers was called off after an injury to a player at Yuluma Park on Sunday.

With Queens Park leading 7-0 at the 39-minute mark, Stirling fullback Gabbi Saraceni went down with an injury, causing referee John Westmerland to bring an early end to the game.

Westmerland took the safety of all players into account when making his decision.

A decision on whether the game will be replayed will be made this week, based on the referee’s report.

Earlier in the contest, Queens Park, who had won their last three games wasted no time getting settled into the game as a hat-trick to La Monte and a stunning solo goal by Thalia Organ put the visitors 4-0 up after just 14 minutes.

Queens Park further extended their advantage with Katrina Jukic scoring a brace and Shannon May also finding the back of the net before play was stopped.

Stirling play Balcatta in Round 15, while Queens Park travel to Wauhop Park to take on Fremantle City in a top of the table clash.

Both games kick off at 1pm next Sunday, 4 August.

Football West would like to wish Saraceni a speedy recovery.
