Moreno sets up Queens Park victory

Report by Samuel Hays

Queens Park have shown why they are top of the Women’s Premier League table with an impressive 3-0 victory over Balcatta at Grindleford Reserve on Sunday.

There were three different scorers for Queens Park with Lexie Moreno, Shannon May and Marianna Tabain all finding the back of the net.

RESULTS

Balcatta had made the brighter start with a couple of early shots testing Queens Park keeper Rebecca Bennett, including one from Epril Nossent.

But Queens Park grew into the match well and Ellie La Monte had a good chance when she went one-on-one with Balcatta keeper Gabrielle Dal Buslo, who made a good save from point-blank range.

Queens Park took the lead after 20 minutes through a long-range strike from Moreno which caught Dal Buslo off her line.

Ashleigh Panaia almost equalised just before the break but she fired her shot just wide of the post.

The second half was all Queens Park and the second goal arrived on 54 minutes as May slid the ball home following some good build-up play.

Tabain made sure of the result when she blasted the ball into the back of the net on 66 minutes after Dal Buslo had parried it into her path.
