National Youth Championships for Boys – Day Two

Football West News

The Gold Fields State Under 14s are three wins from three after two days of the National Youth Championships for Boys.

After their 2-1 victory over Newcastle Jets on Monday, the WA side played two matches at Coffs Harbour’s C.ex International Stadium on Tuesday.

They began with an 8-0 thrashing of Northern Territory with doubles from Ethan Banks (Sorrento) and Orhan Boric (Perth SC) and goals from Lachlan Byrne (Murdoch University Melville), Alex Da Rocha (Perth SC), Royle Rahamim (Bayswater City) and Toby Snook (ECU Joondalup).

The 14s followed it up with a 2-0 defeat of NSW Metro Blue thanks to goals from Banks and Josh Kingston (ECU Joondalup).

Football West Technical Director Cris Ola said: “It was a fantastic performance against NSW Metro Blue.

“In the first seven minutes we could have scored seven goals! We had that many chances and they (NSW) could not get out of their own half. The boys were outstanding.”

The Gold Fields State Under 13s have one win, one draw and one loss following Tuesday’s matches.

After an opening day draw with Jets, they chalked up their first win with a dominant 4-0 victory over Northern Territory. Taylor Wright (ECU Joondalup) opened the scoring and this was followed by a double Yohannes Toto (Bayswater City) and one from Daniel Bennie (Sorrento).

Unfortunately the WA U13s were second best in the afternoon, going down 3-0 to NSW Metro Blue.

Both WA teams take on Queensland Metro and Victoria Country on Wednesday and a win for the 14s over Queensland will see them top their group going into the placings stages of the competition.
