Hyundai NTC get off the mark against Fremantle City

Football West News

Report by Edward Nixon

The Hyundai NTC Women rallied late, scoring four goals in the final 25 minutes to record a 4-1 win over Fremantle City for their first victory of the 2019 Women’s Premier League season at Celebration Park on Sunday.

Super-sub Jayna Ridley bagged a double, while Taneesha Baker and Abbey Green also scored as NTC bounced back from last weekend’s Round 1 loss to Queens Park.

In wet conditions, both sides cancelled each other out during a goalless opening term – Fremantle’s Issy Bridger going the closest when her long-range effort cannoned off the post just before the break.

After the change of ends, it was all action with Bridger again involved as her header went wide of Miranda Templeman’s goal from Courtney Owen’s corner.

It took until the 69th minute for the Hyundai NTC to break the deadlock as Baker’s intended cross caught City goalkeeper Jamie Campbell off her line to nestle into the top corner.

A quick-fire double from substitute Ridley turned the contest on its head as the Hyundai NTC took a commanding 3-0 lead.

Fremantle did manage to pull one back eight minutes from time after the ball bundled over the line following a goal-line scramble, but the Hyundai NTC got the final laugh as Green’s goal just before full-time put an exclamation point on her side’s win.
