Quinns win to remain in title hunt

Report by Samuel Hays

Quinns have kept alive their slim hopes of a Belt Up Amateur Premier Division title after a 2-0 victory over North Perth United at Woodville Reserve on Sunday.

Second half goals to Ryan McCready and Liam Hunt ensured Quinns remain six points behind leaders Kingsley with four rounds remaining.

North Perth should have taken the lead inside two minutes when Edin Nalic sent a close range shot high of the target.

And they went close again when a Lee Theole free kick from halfway was allowed to bounce in the box before hitting the crossbar, much to the relief of the Quinns defence.

A Hunt shot was well blocked by Sam Nicol to deny a likely goal before Nalic sent a diving header just wide.

The opener came after 69 minutes when McCready got in behind before punishing the North Perth defence as he slotted the ball home.

Thiery Berard and Oscar Kelly both went close as North Perth searched for an equaliser but Quinns doubled their lead in the 90th minute as Hunt showed great fight to win the ball and finish from the tight angle.

That was how it finished as Quinns took their chances and North Perth were made to pay for their profligacy.
