A two-centre workshop for young referees looking to officiate at the upcoming Smarter Than Smoking Junior Cup finals took place this week.
More than 100 referees and referee instructors attended the workshop, at the Football West Referee training ground at Noranda for peole north of the river and Willetton Senior High School for those south.
Football West Referee Development Officer Frank Moretti said: “The workshop has become a yearly event following on from its success last year.
“The first part in a classroom environment dealt with managing kicks from the penalty mark to decide a match. The second component was an outdoor practical session for assistant referees duties.”
Meanwhile, with the football season going into its final few weeks, Football West is looking at recruiting referees for next year with courses starting in January and February 2020.
“In 2019 Football West had 460 candidates register for the entry Referee Level 4 course and we are looking at increasing our numbers to cater for the growing number of participants,” Moretti added.
“Once we have confirmed dates for 2020, candidates who have registered their interest will be notified of the January and February dates before they are released to the general public, giving them first option to register and attend the course.”
