Southern duo lead way in first division

Port Kennedy and Mandurah City are first and second in the Women’s State Division One after the opening couple of rounds.

Port Kennedy edged out ECU Joondalup 1-0, Wachiraporn Somjan the goalscorer five minutes before half-time.

Mandurah City were awarded a 3-0 win after Gwelup Croatia forfeited their game.

Bethanie Yeomans netted for a second successive week to give Sorrento the points at South West Phoenix, while Amy Clark popped up with a second-half winner for Armadale at Balga SC. Rebecca Triplett had opened the scoring for Balga on six minutes, with Adele Hitchenor levelling for Army before the break.

Two goals in as many minutes shortly before half-time were enough for Stirling Lions as they downed Gosnells City 2-0.

Courtney Lombardo struck on 41 minutes, then Lions captain Gabrielle Denman doubled the lead almost immediately.

The match between Perth AFC and UWA Nedlands was postponed.


– Danielle Bastick scored a hat-trick as Women’s Amateur League leaders Curtin University beat Balga SC 10-0.

Fremantle City’s Alice Vandermeiren also bagged a treble in her side’s 5-3 win over Subiaco, for whom Jessica Horn scored twice.

But the individual performance of the day came from Tiahna Atkins, who scored four times in Northern Redbacks’ 5-0 victory at UWA Nedlands.
