State Amateurs win well in Kalgoorlie

Football West News

Quinns FC’s Liam Hunt scored a hat-trick as the Gold Fields Men’s State Amateur Team proved too strong for a Goldfields Soccer Association Select XI in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Saturday night.

The WA side took the lead through Lucas Munoz (North Perth United) and although they were pegged back, Hunt struck before the break to restore the lead just before half-time.

Joondalup United’s Adam Taylor made it 3-1 with a header on 55 minutes, before Hunt added two more to wrap up a 5-1 victory.

Head coach Colm Costello said: “We had 11 players make their debuts for the State side and we made five substitutions at the break and they all made a very positive impact.

“It was a good test for us and congratulations to Liam on a terrific hat-trick.”

In the second match of the Goldfields Challenge double-header, a young Northern Redbacks side lost 4-3 to a GSA XI.
