Swan grab play-off advantage

Football West News

UPDATE: Two goals in the first half from Brian Patterson has put Swan United in the driving seat following the first leg of the State League Inter-Divisional Promotion Play-off final against Murdoch University Melville.

Swan will go into Saturday’s second leg at home holding a 2-1 lead after MUM’s Mark Lucas pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before half-time.

Patterson opened the scoring inside the first minute at Murdoch Synthetic and doubled his side’s advantage before the half-hour.

Lucas’ penalty on 34 minutes has given MUM a lifeline, and they showed in the semi-final that they cannot be written off after overcoming Gosnells City despite losing the first leg 3-1.

But Swan, who finished fourth in Division Two six points behind third place Melville, must be favourites to book their place in the first division for 2020.

The second leg at Swan Italian Club kicks off at 2pm on Saturday and will be livestreamed on the Football West YouTube and Facebook pages.
