Young superheroes embrace world game
Football West News
Newly-appointed Football West Goldfields Development Officer Josh Chiat has been making his presence known, hosting five school clinics across more than 200km of the golden outback over the past three weeks.
Introducing almost 200 children in Norseman, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Coolgardie and Kurrawang to the world game, Chiat said most of the students were taking part in the sport for the first time.
A highlight was last Thursday’s book week trip to East Kalgoorlie Primary School, where a superhero-themed clinic pitted DC and Marvel legends against Jedi knights and Mortal Kombat fighters.
The school is based in the suburb of Williamstown, located in the shadow of Kalgoorlie’s famous Super Pit and Mt Charlotte gold mines.
Chiat was embarrassed he left his cape at home but said the smiles on children’s faces at the end of the sessions made the trip worth its weight in gold.
“The EKPS clinic demonstrates Football West’s plans to provide more opportunities for Aboriginal youth in the Goldfields to participate in the wonderful sport of soccer, something we hope to build on over the next year,” he said.
