Champion duo have sights on double

Olympic Kingsway and Carramar Shamrock Rovers are on course to complete their respective doubles after booking their places in the divisional cup finals.

Kingsway will take on Fremantle City in the Division One final on Saturday, while Carramar face Dianella White Eagles in the Division Two decider on Friday.

Both matches will be at Dorrien Gardens – just two of 11 finals that will be held at the home of Perth SC across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Olympic Kingsway had to do it the hard way against Stirling Lions in their semi-final at Kingsway Reserve on Tuesday night before running out 3-1 victors.

The champions fell behind to a goal from Gavin Knight after only nine minutes, a lead Stirling kept until after half-time. But two goals from Tyler Garner turned the match in Kingsway’s favour and Ajak Riak made the tie safe two minutes from time.

Opponents Fremantle had a fine 2-0 victory away at Western Knights, whose drop-off in form has cost them dear at the tail end of the campaign. Knights missed out on the league and have now suffered disappointment in the cup. Goals either side of half-time from Riley Van Dieken and Abias Bukuru did for Knights, who had Adam Harris dismissed in the second half.

It was a real blood-and-thunder cup tie between Carramar Shamrock Rovers and Morley Windmills at Grandis Park, with little to choose between the teams until a Wayne Guest penalty on the stroke of half-time gave title-winning Rovers the lead.

It was a similar tale after the break and again it was the hosts who got the goal at the end of the half, Jack Bardsley dancing past the Windmills defence before firing home via the post to complete a 2-0 win.

Awaiting Rovers on Friday are Dianella, who won 1-0 away at Wanneroo City. The game was drifting towards penalties when White Eagles captain Liam Merigan scored the only goal eight minutes from time.

  • Subiaco reached Saturday’s Division One Reserves cup final after defeating UWA Nedlands 3-1. Subi await the winners of the Quinns v Joondalup United semi, which will be played at Gumblossom Park on Wednesday night. It is a similar situation in the Division One 18s. Subiaco overcame Mandurah City 3-2 and will take on either Quinns or Joondalup United on Saturday.

  • In Division Two, Friday’s Reserves final will feature Murdoch University Melville and Kingsley Westside. MUM FC won a penalty shot-out against Wanneroo City following a goalless draw, while Kingsley thumped Balga 8-0. Both Division Two 18s semi-finals take place at Wotton Reserve on Wednesday night. Kingsley Westside meet Wanneroo City, while Morley Windmills face Murdoch University Melville. The 18s final will be on Saturday morning.
