Former Perth Glory defender Vlad Beretovac is among the latest intake of referees to join the Football West ranks.
Beretovac completed the Level 4 Referee Course at Gibbney Reserve.
And he says it has opened his eyes to the changes that have taken place.
“It was a lot different than years gone by when you used to just sit for an hour online,” he said.
“This was very informative and will hopefully save me a few arguments. I have certainly come unstuck – I think I know what I am talking about and discover the rules have changed.”

Beretovac was part of Glory’s maiden National Soccer League side in 1996 after representing the Perth Kangaroos. Now a co-ordinator with Camp Australia, which offers outside school hours care for students, he has a son at Cockburn City 14s and a daughter in the 16s at Murdoch University Melville.
“I get asked to do the line quite a bit, so I thought why not get in there and stay involved. I’ll hopefully soon get to referee some junior games.
“I’m all for having workshops at clubs for an hour or two, so everyone is on the same page.
“I have done a lot of refereeing in Joeyball and Rooball (MiniRoos) but this is completely different than the small-sided matches … it’s really good to stay informed.”
Anybody wishing to follow Vlad, Football West has spots on the following courses:
