The Football West State League began on Saturday, with Western Knights and Joondalup United both enjoying big away wins in Division One.
Knights had too much firepower for Swan United, netting twice in each half to run out 4-0 winners.
John Chalmers opened the scoring on five minutes, followed by an effort from Adam Harris. After the break Andrija Jukic and substitute Jake Sardelic chipped in to give the scoreline a resounding look for the 2020 Night Series winners.
Jamie Gibson and Jay Lang scored two apiece in Joondalup’s 4-1 victory against Ashfield.
Gibson struck first from the penalty spot, before former Bayswater City youngster Hamish Van Dieken levelled before half-time.
However, Joondalup ran away with the match after the interval.
Riley Van Dieken, the older brother of Hamish, was also among the goals as he helped Fremantle City defeat Subiaco 3-1.
Egide Ngendakumana and Abias Bukuru scored City’s other goals.
Another former Bayswater teenager on the scoresheet was Ajak Riak, who gave Olympic Kingsway a first-half lead against Mandurah City.
Gyles Davies added a second and although substitute Dom Stockdale pulled one back with a late free-kick, Mandurah left Madeley empty handed.
Forrestfield United recovered from a half-time deficit to defeat UWA Nedlands 3-1.
Max Welton struck first for UWA before Ben Wantee, captain Rhys Loxley and a Luke Christie own goal decided the game in United’s favour.
In the day’s other opening round fixture, an early Sam Wynne penalty was enough to give Quinns a 1-0 win away to Stirling Lions.
