Lions strike in the Nik of time

A last-minute goal from Nikola Talimdzioski clinched Stirling Lions’ first State League win of the season as they beat Joondalup United 4-3.

Talimdzioski’s decider, his second goal of the match, put the seal on a thrilling game in which both sides came from behind to lead.

Lukas de Lima had Stirling in front on 14 minutes but by half-time they trailed 2-1 as Callum Speed and Jay Lang replied for United.

Fifteen minutes into the second half and it was Stirling who had retaken the lead through Gavin Knight and Talimdzioski. Dion Berman looked to have rescued a point for United but Talimdzioski had the final word.

Western Knights and Forrestfield United remain one and two in the first division after three rounds.

Goals from Jack Rycroft and Alex Kretowicz gave Knights the points against UWA Nedlands.

Forrestfield were 4-0 up at the break against Quinns thanks to Daniel Corbett (2), Ben Wantee and Vladimir Naumovski. Joe Tweats and Sam Wynne pulled goals back for Quinns but it finished 4-2 to United.

Subiaco and Ashfield were two other teams who collected their first league wins for 2020.

Skipper Evans Maranga and Sakou Sylla had Ashfield well placed at half-time away at Olympic Kingsway. Samim Fattahi confirmed the win in the final minute, before an own goal from Kaelan Majeks ensured the game finished 3-1 for Ashfield.

As for Subi, they left it late with two goals in the final eight minutes to down Swan United 2-0. Hanafi Ghazali broke the deadlock then Ignacio Dominguez bagged his third goal of the season from the penalty spot.

Charlie Betts struck 10 minutes from time to give Fremantle City a 1-0 victory against Mandurah City.

In Division Two, Canning City and Wanneroo City both maintained their 100 per cent starts to the season with 2-1 away wins at Morley-Windmills and Dianella White Eagles, respectively.
