North Perth United could be one win away from a second title in three seasons following the weekend’s Round 12 matches.
Their 2-1 victory at Maddington White City keeps them seven points clear of nearest rivals Kwinana United.
And with only four rounds to play, three points against South West Phoenix this Sunday and a Kwinana loss at home to UWA Nedlands will guarantee that North Perth are champions once more.
North Perth’s clash at Maddington sparked in to life with two penalties inside as many first-half minutes. Stevens Pino put the hosts in front on 16 minutes, Ago Mujic equalised almost immediately.
The winner arrived on 64 minutes through Lewis Robinson, a goal which all but killed off Maddington’s interest in the title race.
First-half goals from Sean Troup and Jake Daley set up Kwinana for a 2-1 win at Wembley Downs, for whom captain Juraj Galba pulled one back after the break.
UWA Nedlands went above Maddington on goal difference after two goals apiece from Lawrence Lewis and Walter Torres secured a 4-0 win over Jaguar FC.
In fifth place are Hamersely Rovers, who were turned over 5-1 by South West Phoenix. Liam Hudson put Rovers in front on four minutes but that is as good as it got for the visitors. Sam Riches soon equalised and by half-time it was 4-1 thanks to further goals from Zach Van Oosten, Noah Sykes and another from Riches. Jayden Prosser got the fifth on 72 minutes.
Wayne Carter struck a second-half hat-trick as Quinns took derby honours with a 4-2 win over Joondalup United. Sam Vencatachellum got Quinns’ first, Adam Buckley scored both of United’s goals.
Bottom of the league Queens Park pulled off their finest performance of the season to beat Leeming Strikers 5-1. Byron Goodwin (2), Leigh Bridger, Lindon Bridger and Moulay Driss Ibrahimi were on target for Queens Park, while Kieran Witt got a late goal for Strikers.
