North Perth United have taken a step to repeating their 2018 title triumph after the completion of Round 11 of the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division.
United are seven points clear with five matches remaining following a set of favourable results on Sunday.
North Perth were pushed all the way in their match at Jaguar FC before coming out on top 3-1. Lucas-Joel Munoz-Despierre gave United a lead on seven minutes but that was quickly cancelled out by Conor O’Driscoll. That is how it stayed until 10 minutes from the end when Munoz-Despierre got his second, before Alpha Sheriff capped the victory with a stoppage-time sealer.
Maddington White City started the day in second place, four points adrift of North Perth. But despite a first-half double from Samir Ramos they slipped up 4-3 at home to Hamersley Rovers, for whom Cosimo Figliomeni produced a brace before the break.
Kwinana United have replaced Maddington in second place after they came from behind to beat Queens Park 2-1 in a game overshadowed by a serious injury which resulted in 33 minutes of stoppage time.
Byron Goodwin gave bottom-of-the-table Queens Park the lead before half-time, only for Lee Bates to strike twice in the added time.
Kwinana, Maddington and Hamersley are separated only by goal difference, with Leeming Strikers a point further back after they went down 3-1 at Quinns. David Palin netted a penalty for Leeming, before Wayne Carter, Ryan McCready and Sam Vencatachellum turned the match around.
Brennan Childs struck seven minutes from full-time to give UWA Nedlands a 2-1 home win over Wembley Downs, while goals from Zac Van Oosten, Sam Riches, Franco Van Zyl and a Kieran Quinn penalty were enough for South West Phoenix to overcome Joondalup United 4-2.
