North Perth punish Rovers

North Perth United overcame the setback of an early own goal to beat 10-man Hamersley Rovers 5-1 and go four points clear in the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division.

Rovers would have jumped above the 2018 champions and gone top with a win and they got off to a great start when Michael Furfaro put the ball into his own net after only three minutes.

However, Lewis Robinson soon equalised and by the break North Perth were in front thanks to Ago Mujic’s penalty, while Hamersley were a man down following Cosimo Figliomeni’s dismissal for a second yellow card.

United took full advantage of their numerical advantage in the second half as Lucas Munoz-Despierre, Jack Lavis and Joel Jebaratnam all got on the scoresheet.

Second-place Maddington dew 1-1 with Leeming Strikers, who are third. David Palin struck early for Leeming, before Cesar Orozco equalised four minutes after the interval.

Maddington currently have 16 points, while Kwinana United joined Leeming and Hamersley on 15 after they won 1-0 at South West Phoenix. Lee Bates got the only goal for Kwinana in the first half.

Adam Buckley scored a hat-trick, including a stoppage-time winner, as Joondalup United recovered from 2-0 down to defeat Jaguar FC 4-3.

Matthew Devereux also completed a hat-trick in added time as he helped Wembley Downs draw 3-3 away at Quinns. Sam Vencatachellum’s effort a minute from the end looked to have given Quinns only their second league win of 2020 but Devereux had the last word.

Finally, UWA Nedlands beat Queens Park 2-0. Frazer Childs and Richard Olsen were the second-half scorers.
