South West Phoenix maintained their grip on top spot of Women’s State League Division One following Sunday’s Round Eight fixtures.
Lara Graham, skipper Shauna Wetherell and top scorer Nicole Suttie were on target in the first half as Phoenix won 3-0 at Stirling Lions.
Sorrento remain two points behind following a 2-1 home win over Balga.
Heben Michaele put Balga ahead with her third goal of the season, Pia Sniehotta levelled for the Gulls before half-time.
Knowing they could not afford a slip-up against lowly Balga, Sorrento pressed on and Jacqueline Nellany came up with the winner 13 minutes from time.
With UWA Nedlands’ home game with Mandurah City postponed, Perth AFC and Armadale took advantage to jump to third and fourth respectively.
An early goal from Linda Carnessali was enough for Perth AFC to beat ECU Joondalup 1-0, while a hat-trick from Adele Hitchenor and goals from Chloe Bolt and Sharon Clark gave Armadale a 5-0 win over Gwelup Croatia.
In Sunday’s other game, Port Kennedy won 2-1 at Gosnells City. Maria Sullivan scored both of Port Kennedy’s goals, with Ella Cluff netting for Gosnells.
There were also wins for the top two in the Women’s Amateur League, with Northern Redbacks and Fremantle City swapping places because of goal difference.
Tiahna Atkins, Charlotte Meaden and Siena Crevacore all got braces in Redbacks’ 9-0 stroll at Balga, while Alice Vandermeiren was again among the scorers for Fremantle as they defeated third-place Curtin University 3-0.
A double from Ashley Harling ensured UWA Nedlands beat Subiaco 2-0.
