Phoenix four points clear

South West Phoenix have a four-point lead at the top of the Women’s State League Division One as they reached 50 goals in only their ninth match.

Phoenix won 3-1 at home to Perth AFC, with Nicole Suttie’s first-half double taking the division’s top scorer to 19 goals for the season.

Sorrento missed a chance to stay in touch with Phoenix after throwing away a 2-0 half-time lead at Port Kennedy.

Jacqueline Nellany was on target for the second successive week for the Gulls as she added to Courtney Pipes’ opener. But goals from Erin Moodie and Laken McCormick earned Port a draw.

UWA Nedlands were the big winners on Sunday as they stuck 10 past Gwelup Croatia without reply. Amelia Bates bagged three and Monique Saunders a double to help UWA overtake Sorrento and move into second.

Captain Melanie Paschkewitz scored twice in Mandurah’s 3-0 defeat of Gosnells City, while Lisa Cunningham’s strike 19 minutes from time completed Stirling Lions’ fightback from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Balga.

The ECU Joondalup v Armadale game was postponed.
