Brianna keen on a fair go for all

Football West’s new Inclusive Development Officer Brianna Wilson is determined to give everyone a fair go – a passion fired by the childhood memory of being left on the sidelines as the boys played football.

“I remember at primary school in Safety Bay, I wasn’t allowed to play cricket or soccer because I was a girl. So I know what it’s like to be excluded,” Brianna said.

“Ever since then, as a kid, I’ve been big on giving people a fair go.”

Now Brianna has the opportunity to help others as she looks after Football West programs including Street Football, Common Goal, the Community Cup and the Africa Down Under Cup.

“My main role is keeping active in the community,” she said.

“I particularly love Street Football. I’ve seen it at Belmont and Carousel and it is such a positive thing for youngsters.”

Liverpool fan Brianna, who used to play outdoor and futsal in Rockingham, has worked in management roles at eye glasses retailer OPSM and at an aged care home.

Football West Community Football Manager Sarah Du Plessis said: “We look forward to Brianna bringing her skills and experience to the role, recently completing her Sport Development Diploma and volunteering in club coaching.

“Driving inclusive participation while ensuring the game is accessible and a positive experience for all is a key focus in our community football programs.”
