2025 inter-divisonal play-off finals

Inter divisional

The last promotion-relegation issues of the 2025 NPL and State League seasons are decided tomorrow with the inter-divisional play-off finals at the Sam Kerr Football Centre.

The NPL-Division One clash sees Fremantle City look to salvage their NPL status against Joondalup City.

Fremantle reached the top flight for the first time two years ago when they beat City’s neighbours Joondalup United in this corresponding game. After finishing third in their first season in the NPL, Fremantle head coach Matty Sparrow left for Bayswater City where he won the league. In contrast, Freo finished in the relegation play-off place, their fate sealed when Balcatta Etna beat Floreat Athena with a 90th-minute winner on the final day.

Joondalup City also have good memories of the play-offs following their promotion from Division Two a year ago. They ended the Division One season in third place, losing just one of their last eight games to eventual champions Dianella White Eagles.

In the play-off semi-finals, Fremantle squeezed past Kingsley Westside on away goals while Joondalup City had too much for UWA Nedlands, winning the two-legged tie 5-3 on aggregate.

The Division One-Division Two final sees Kalamunda City meet Cockburn City.

The teams swapped divisions 12 months ago, with Kalamunda going up as Division Two champions while Cockburn were suffering a second successive relegation. This year Kalamunda finished second bottom in the first division, while Cockburn were runners-up to Division Two title-winners Quinns.

In the semis, Kalamunda beat Forrestfield United 3-2 on aggregate, with Cockburn defeating East Perth 4-2 over the two legs.

Finals day begins with two Division Two/Amateur Premier Division fixtures, as Swan United meet North Beach and Wanneroo City take on Morley Windmills. The two successful teams will play in State League Division Two in 2026.

All four matches are live on Streamer.
