Seniors add fitting touch to Country Week's 50th anniversary

Football West General Manager – Football David Lewis has hailed 2025 Country Week and said the introduction of a senior competition has brought a new dimension to the annual football carnival.
Regional associations from across Western Australia gathered at Curtin University, Kingsway Sporting Complex and Sam Kerr Football Centre last week for the 50th anniversary tournament.

More than 1,300 players from U11s to U17s and almost as many coaches, parents and support staff were in Perth.
And for the first time since Country Week began in 1975, there was a senior competition. The Midwest Soccer Association won the men’s event, while the Great Southern Soccer Association took out the women’s.

“We were delighted with how the week went and it was a fitting celebration of 50 years of Country Week,” Mr Lewis said.
“There has been a call from the regional associations for a senior element to the carnival in recent years. It worked well bringing it in as part of the wider anniversary celebrations, especially as many players would have been involved in Country Week when they were younger.
“It was a real success and brought a new dimension to an already fantastic week. This is something I’m confident will become a permanent fixture on the Country Week calendar.”

Mr Lewis added: “I’d like to thank all of the regional associations, parents, coaches and other volunteers who make it possible for the youngsters to come to Perth and play. And thanks to the Football West Community Participation Officers for their excellent work in the regions, and Perth Glory, whose senior players came along and helped with the presentations.”
Football West would like to acknowledge the support of the WA Government, the City of Wanneroo, Olympic Kingsway SC, Wanneroo City SC and Curtin University.
