Baysie, Olympic continue impressive start to NPLM campaign

Olympic Kingsway’s strong start to their NPLWA – Men’s title defence continued as they made it three wins from the opening three matches.

Jayden Gorman scored a double as the Green Machine came from behind to defeat Floreat Athena 4-1 at Kingsway Reserve. The result lifted the champions to the summit on goal difference ahead of Bayswater City.

Winless Floreat went ahead on 15 minutes when Moustafa Mohamed forced in Owen Goodliffe’s free-kick. Kingsway were back on terms two minutes into the second half after Mitch Oxborrow’s corner landed with Aryn Williams who volleyed home through a sea of bodies.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men when goalscorer Goodliffe was sent off, allowing Olympic to cash in on having the extra player.

NPLM RESULTS, FIXTURES & STANDINGS

Jayden Gorman brilliantly lashed in when teed up by Lebib Lebib, before Tyler Garner’s near-post cross was tucked away by the former Glory academy player.

Mohamed Diallo put the late icing on the cake after Laat Mathing’s shot was fumbled by Josh Hunter.

Bayswater City also moved on to nine points as they recorded a 2-0 win over Perth RedStar on Friday night.

RedStar could have opened the scoring but Daryl Nicol swept a loose ball over the bar. Instead, it was the home side who hit the front as Oli La Galia nudged through for Sean McManus to run in and score for the second successive week.

It was 2-0 when Declan Hughes’ corner was headed in from six yards by Cam Teece, who also netted last time out.

In the second half, RedStar pressed as Theo Leeming’s deflected effort hit the bar and Lewis Italiano saved from Nicol after the Scot latched onto Chris Jackson’s wayward back-pass. But Bayswater ended a run of 12 league matches without victory against RedStar.

Perth Glory saw their 100% start come to an end as they twice let the lead slip to draw 2-2 at Sorrento FC.

Glory struck inside the opening 15 seconds as Adrian Pini nicked the ball off Manuel Veneracion and drilled home. Sorrento equalised when Dario Ramella’s teasing free-kick glanced in off Glory’s Max Argent. But the visitors regained the lead before the interval through Sebastian Despotovski’s spot-kick after a handball.

The Gulls snared a second equaliser 13 minutes from time as another Ramella set-piece found its way over the line, via a touch off Scott Robertson. It was enough to give Steve McGarry’s side their first point of the campaign despite losing skipper Dean Cummings to a second yellow card.

Perth SC are also unbeaten after three games after a 3-3 draw at Stirling Macedonia.

Stirling made a good start on 17 minutes when Mark Birighitti’s clearance was picked off by Kade Fearnall who threaded a pass for Josh Bilaloski to swivel and score.

Perth equalised four minutes later when Gordon Perkins beat the offside trap and put through the goalkeepers’ legs, before Stirling scored two more before half-time. Samuel Dweh crossed for Bilaloski to net then Danny Douglas’ stunning chest-and-volley after just hitting the bar made it 3-1.

Perth pulled one back a minute after the restart through Luka Hirninger’s looping volley and it was 3-3 with 20 minutes to play as Ethan Banks’ cross rolled through for Perkins to complete a brace.

The league’s bottom two sides going into the weekend met at Hilton Park where visitors Balcatta Etna defeated Fremantle City 2-1.

Declan Hargreaves’ free-kick went in off City defender Hayden Stevens for an own goal, and Jon Stynes’ back-post finish doubled Etna's lead. Freo pulled one back when Karl Moody headed in Taj Bingwa’s cross but they remain the only team without a point.

Finally, Armadale beat Western Knights 4-2 in Tuesday night's rearranged fixture.

All the goals came after the break as Armadale surged into a 4-0 lead. Pieter Jacobsz finished Joshua Willis' great ball within a minute of the restart, and Willis helped set up the second for Igor Cvijanovic. Daniel Robinson and Amir Ajan then struck in as many minutes for Alun Vernals' side, before the previously wasteful Knights netted twice at the death through Asher Hwight.

The original game was postponed on Saturday due to the heat.
