Broome sweeps aside the rest with record MiniRoos numbers

It’s the boom in Broome as youngsters in the north flock to the round ball game.
More than 270 boys and girls have signed up for Broome Soccer Association's Coles MiniRoos program, making it the most popular in the state. The next largest in WA is under 100.
MiniRoos is a Football Australia initiative designed for children of all abilities aged 4-11. It uses short, game-based sessions to introduce football to newcomers in an inclusive way.
Broome Soccer Association’s huge numbers are the latest boost for football in the region. Earlier this year, Football West and Football Futures Foundation appointed Mike Doyle as Community Engagement and Development Coordinator for the Kimberley.
“The Broome Soccer Association committee and volunteer coaches have done an amazing job managing the high volume of numbers,” he said.
“It's great to see the kids enjoying themselves and so many new coaches helping out.”
Football West Program Development Lead Dean Evans oversees the Coles MiniRoos program in WA.
“Congratulations to the Broome Soccer Association on their incredible figures. it is great to see more and more youngsters getting involved in football,” he said.
“Football West is excited for the future of the game in the Kimberley.”
