Club Changer: Mandurah City become WA's first 3-Star club

Mandurah City FC are Western Australia’s first 3-Star Club Changer club, recognising their commitment to providing a welcoming, fun and safe environment.

Mandurah City’s Club Changer journey, led by Female Football Director Mel Loreto, began in 2023 when they achieved 1-Star status with a focus on growing women’s and girls’ participation.

Last year, they progressed to 2-Star status by demonstrating strong safeguarding practices. Now they are leading the way in community football in WA with their elevation to 3-Star status.

Ms Loreto said: “We are delighted to achieve the 3-Star Club Changer recognition. As a club, we take great pride in the progress we’ve made. This milestone is a reflection of the commitment and hard work from everyone involved.”

Mandurah City have seen impressive growth in its Female Football Department, with participation numbers more than doubling over the past three years.

In 2022, the club had 75 female players across seniors, juniors and MiniRoos. They now have 178. And in the last 12 months, the club have seen their number of female coaches grow from three to eight.

Football West Club Development Lead Mo Syafiq said: “Congratulations to Mandurah City on achieving 3-Star status. They have taken significant steps in strengthening their foundations through the development of a safeguarding policy and the recruitment and recognition of more volunteers. These efforts highlight the club’s dedication to creating a safe and supportive environment.”

Football Australia’s Club Changer program is designed to protect and enhance grassroots clubs, making them stronger and more resilient. It guides clubs in building inclusive cultures, embedding safeguarding practices, and creating positive environments for players, coaches, volunteers, and officials, while laying the foundation for long-term success.
