DIVISION ONE
Dianella White Eagles are the new leaders of State League Division One after ending Gwelup Croatia’s 100% start to the season in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash at the Croatian Sporting Complex.
The visitors struck early when Cory McNelis’ cross was rifled high into the net by Gavin Byars on eight minutes, making it back-to-back goals for the striker.
Jack Bardsley’s stunning free-kick levelled the contest midway through the second period. But Dianella won it soon after when McNelis’ cross-field pass was picked up by Albert Luwi, who cut inside and crashed in at the near post to ensure his side are now the league’s only unbeaten side.
DIVISION ONE RESULTS, FIXTURES & STANDINGS
The top three sides in the second tier are separated by one point as UWA Nedlands closed the gap on the leaders with a 4-2 win at Murdoch University Melville.
UWA made a rapid-fire start with two goals inside the first four minutes, both by Sam Ince. His opener came a free-kick followed by a curler from 25 yards into the bottom corner.
MUM FC hit back promptly with two Charlie Breen goals making it 2-2 after only 17 minutes at Besteam Stadium. But a pair of close-range finishes either side of the interval from Iljas Ahmedov against his former side decided matters as UWA won for a fourth time in five outings.
Elsewhere, Subiaco were one of four teams to pick up their first win of the campaign after defeating Mandurah City 3-1 at Rosalie Park.
Kaleb Morrison raced onto a ball in the channel and held off his marker to slot Subi into a 21st minute lead, but the Dolphins levelled before half-time when Jordan Callaghan’s cross was converted from six yards by Luke Desmond.
Morrison ran in to score from a stray back pass just after the interval and restore the hosts lead before Jonty Pearson’s stunning strike lifted Subi up to ninth, while Mandurah drop to the bottom of the league and are without a win so far.
Curtin University also got their first victory of the campaign thanks to Kieran Witt’s late goal in a 1-0 win at Gosnells. Witt helped on a long free kick from Nathan Smith three minutes from time, which ensured promoted Curtin claimed their first points of the year and moved one point behind their opponents.
Inglewood United are also on the board in the second tier after edging past Kingsley Westside 2-1. Ryder Leasor’s unfortunate own goal looped over his goalkeeper and in to see Inglewood ahead early, but Max Adamson volleyed home Luke Salmon’s pass to square it up at the break.
The winner was scored six minutes after the restart when Hayden Lowe crossed for Chad Nilson to nod in from a few yards out as Inglewood recorded a maiden league win under Cam Lord.
Joondalup City capped the quartet of teams to notch their first win of 2025 as they ended Kalamunda City’s unbeaten start.
Sam McKearnan’s first-half tap kicked things off for the visitors before a late own goal from Ignacio Gomez ensured the northern suburbs club moved into the top six.
DIVISION TWO
Quinns FC are the new leaders in Division Two as Jack Leeming and Tyler Holden struck in a 2-0 win over Carramar Shamrock Rovers. Nick Jennings’ side are top on goal difference with a game in hand, having won their opening four matches.
Cockburn City are level on points with Quinns after a 2-1 win over previous leaders East Perth. Ciaran Burnett had cancelled out Aidan Zaepar’s opener, but Rory McGrath came off the bench to bag the winner.
Those results saw Balga close the gap on the inter-divisional playoff places to two points following a 4-1 win over Wembley Downs.
Balga raced into a 4-0 lead by 51 minutes thanks to a Jack Mellor own goal and efforts by Luke Christie, Silver Kelder and Lucas Reid, which set the platform for victory despite another own goal, this time by Balga's Seamus Edwards.
Canning City are level on points with Balga following a 3-2 win at Wanneroo City on Friday evening.
