Dianella up for top award

The SportWest Awards 2021 take place next week with one Football West club on the shortlist for an award.

Dianella Junior Soccer Club are one of three finalists for the SportWest Community Club of the Year – John Gilmour Medal.

Dianella are a community and family orientated club with almost 300 players and focused on participation, enjoyment and development. 

Their programs in 2021 included:

President Chris Farley said: “In competition, we consider the fact that we offer over 30 squads the chance to compete at every attainable level of the game an achievement.

“Yes, we have squads that win their respective leagues, but we celebrate every player achievement regardless. We particularly go out of our way to celebrate players who have played 100 and then 200 games at the club which is an incredible achievement for anyone in junior sport.”

Football West Club Engagement Lead Abid Imam said: “Dianella Junior Soccer Club are a quintessential community football club embodying admirable values such as giving back. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in playing, coaching and volunteering at the club.”

The SportWest Community Club of the Year – John Gilmour Medal acknowledges clubs who have assisted members or the local community to positively overcome individual, family or community challenges or adversity; are leading the way in creating inclusive and safe environments for people to connect, inspire and achieve together and make a positive impact on the local community. 

The SportWest Awards take place at Optus Stadium on 24 February.
