East Perth, Maddington or Jaguar - where is the title heading?

The thrilling Belt Up Amateur Premier Division title race reaches its conclusion this Sunday with three teams still in the hunt.

East Perth and Maddington White City are both on 44 points, East Perth on top by virtue of a single goal. Just a point behind are long-time leaders Jaguar, who have suffered damaging defeats to both fellow title rivals over the past fortnight.

Up until Wednesday night Kwinana United were also in contention. However, a 4-0 home thumping by relegation-threatened Quinns ended their chances of winning the league.

Kwinana can still have a say in the destiny of the title, as they are at Maddington in the final round. East Perth host North Perth United at Inglewood Stadium, while Jaguar travel to Kelmscott Roos.

East Perth have found form at the perfect time, following up their win over Jaguar with a 4-2 victory at Kwinana on the weekend. Niall Murray netted twice for Colm Costello’s side, who were promoted to the Premier Division only 12 months ago.

Two weeks ago Jaguar held a five-point lead at the top, but back-to-back losses to East Perth and Maddington have seen them slip to third. Samir Ramos and Cesar Orozco were the Maddington scorers as they came from behind to defeat Jaguar 2-1.

At the bottom, Quinns’ midweek win over Kwinana means Queens Park will have their relegation confirmed following Sunday’s games because of a vastly inferior goal difference. Joondalup United occupy the other relegation spot and they must get a better result than either Quinns or Wembley Downs or they are down.

North Beach will go up from Division One as champions, while South Perth United need a point at home against Olympic Kingsway to join them. A loss for South Perth will see Maccabi take the second promotion spot after they completed their season with a 6-2 win over Stirling Panthers last night.
