Ferguson names final WA squad for Persebaya game

Men’s WA State Team head coach Ian Ferguson has confirmed his final squad for next Wednesday night’s prestigious friendly against top Indonesian professional side Persebaya Surabaya.
The Scot has named 22 players for the game, which will take place at the Sam Kerr Football Centre in Queens Park.
The fixture will be broadcast live in Indonesia on national station Indosiar to a potential audience of over 10 million.
Champions Olympic Kingsway have six players in the WA squad, including former Persebaya defender Aryn Williams who will be State Team captain.

Unbeaten NPL leaders Bayswater City have five players, Perth RedStar and Dianella White Eagles three, with the others from Armadale, Gwelup Croatia, Perth SC, Stirling Macedonia and UWA Nedlands.
“Congratulations to the players who have made the final squad. I want to thank everyone who attended the training sessions over the past three weeks – it was not an easy call to leave anybody out from the original squad because the standard has been very high,” Ferguson said.
“Now it’s fingers crossed all the players come through the weekend unscathed and we can look ahead to putting on a show against a top side in Persebaya.”

Persebaya, under new Spanish head coach Eduardo Perez, will bring a full-strength squad to Perth. Up to 100 supporters from the club’s passionate Bonek following are set to attend the match.
The game coincides with the 35th anniversary celebrations of Western Australia’s sister state relationship with the province of East Java, where Surabaya is located.
It is also part of Football West’s wider partnership with Persebaya, which saw the two parties sign a three-year Memorandum of Understanding in December 2024, committing to talent development and exchange programs. Persebaya brought an U19 side to play in Perth in 2018, with Football West reciprocating with a trip to Surabaya 12 months later.

Football West CEO Jamie Harnwell said: “We are looking forward to welcoming our close friends from Surabaya back to Perth for what will be a fantastic night. We are delighted with how the players have embraced the chance to represent the State and want to be involved against a very good team.
“It is exciting to have an occasion of this magnitude at the Sam Kerr Football Centre, especially on the back of the CommBank Matildas using the centre for their base while in WA.”
Football West would like to acknowledge the support of the Department of Creative, Industries, Tourism and Sport for the match.
