FIFA chief Infantino in Perth as Morocco celebrate qualification

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was in town last night to watch Perth/Boorloo bid farewell to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

And the fifth and final match scheduled for Perth Rectangular Stadium ended in emotional scenes as Morocco qualified for the last 16.

The north African team's 1-0 victory over Group H winners Colombia, coupled with Germany's inability to take three points against South Korea, meant Morocco pinched second spot from the Germans.

Anissa Lahmari scored the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time, as she followed in after Ghizlane Chebbak had seen her penalty saved.

For the fifth successive game in Perth, there was a fantastic turn-out with 17,342 fans inside the ground.

Colombia will take on Jamaica next Tuesday in Melbourne for a place in the quarter-finals, while Morocco meet France in Adelaide later on the same day.
