Floreat Athena won the State League Night Series on Saturday with a convincing 4-1 victory over Inglewood United at Proto DPS Stadium.

The result wrapped up an excellent pre-season tournament for Alun Vernals' side, who head into the new Division One campaign determined to bounce straight back up to the New Balance NPL.

First-half substitute Jacob Young headed Athena into a merited lead on 40 minutes when he met an inswinging corner unchallenged at the back post.

Floreat doubled the advantage eight minutes after the restart as Player of the Match Harvey Tomlinson swivelled and fired home via a deflection after Jordan Barbas had saved from Harry Lewis.

It went from bad to worse for Inglewood three minutes later when defender Luis Adlard joined the attack to curl a low effort into the far corner for 3-0.

United did give the home supporters something to cheer on 61 minutes as Rostyn Griffiths capitalised on a spill from Athena keeper Devon Linderman to tap home from a metre out.

However, Floreat had the final word with Jordan Langley on hand to make it four in the 83rd minute.

As for Inglewood, they played their part and were left to reflect on a Gavin Byars effort disallowed for offside and a Kian Mcguigan shot from the edge of the box which hit the bar and the inrushing Byars was unable to convert.
