Football West hosts Indonesian Consul General to WA
Football West was pleased to host the Consul General of Indonesia to Western Australia recently.
Irvan Buchari and Consul for Information and Cultural Social Affairs Antonius Prawira Yudianto joined Football West CEO Jamie Harnwell, Chief Operating Officer Perry Ielati and Indonesia Institute President Robbie Gaspar at the Sam Kerr Football Centre.
The meeting celebrated the ongoing cooperation between the parties, including last July’s historic match between the WA Men’s State Team and Indonesian professional side Persebaya Surabaya.
Mr Buchari was appointed Consul General in August 2025.
“It was a pleasure to show Mr Buchari around the venue for the first time and speak with him about future opportunities,” Mr Harnwell said.
“Football West has built very strong ties with Indonesia over the past decade through our Asian Engagement Strategy, especially with our sister state East Java, and we look forward to more exciting events.
“We have sent many senior and junior sides to compete in Indonesia and hosted visiting teams, most memorably when Persebaya came to play the Men’s State Team and millions watched live in Indonesia. Before that, we signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding with Persebaya.
“These occasions are great sporting and cultural experiences and help build mutual understanding and friendships. They also allow for sports diplomacy, something we saw last year when Premier of Western Australia Roger Cook attended the Persebaya fixture along with the Secretary of East Java Province Adhy Karyono.”
- Football West would like to acknowledge the tremendous support of the WA Government for its Asian Engagement Strategy.
