Football West thanks outgoing Sports Minister Mick Murray

Football West would like to congratulate the Hon Tony Buti on his appointment as the new WA Minister for Sport and Recreation and recognise the great support provided by the outgoing Minister Mick Murray during his term.

Football West CEO James Curtis said: “We want to acknowledge the great efforts of Mr Murray, who has been a true friend of football down the years.

“Mick has been passionate about grassroots sport, including football, and has pushed hard for supporting community clubs and volunteers across Western Australia.

“He has been an advocate for all members of the community, particularly female football.

“Mick over the years has attended many football events across WA engaging at all levels, provided reassurance and support during Covid-19, and has been instrumental in helping WA football secure funding for its first ever State Football Centre.

“We wish Mick well in his retirement from WA politics and will miss his company and sense of humour, but equally we are confident we will see him soon around the grounds.”

Mr Curtis added: “Football West is looking forward to continuing our positive relationship with Premier Mark McGowan and working closely with the new Sports Minister, Tony Buti, as well as the other Ministers and Members of Parliament.

“Dr Buti knows sport inside out and it is always encouraging to know that the new Minister has such strong football credentials.

“These are exciting times for our sport, with major projects such as the State Football Centre and Women’s World Cup plus other programs, and we are looking forward to moving forward with the new Minister.”

The Member for Armadale is a big football supporter and committed Chelsea fan. He has also been known to have the odd game, including turning out with the Kelmscott Ross Walking Football side at Frye Park.
