After two decades charting his own course, David Williams is ready to help WA youngsters chase their football dreams.

The former striker enjoyed an excellent career that saw him become a Socceroo, make almost 230 A-League appearances and enjoy spells in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Hungary and India.

Williams has now joined Football West as Program Development Lead. In the role, he will oversee the Coles MiniRoos and Football School holiday camps, as well as school clinics.

“I’m very excited to have this opportunity to stay in football and work with young people,” Williams said.

“I’m passionate about youth development and helping them grow, whether that’s as a coach, a mentor or just as a role model.”

Williams also works for Football West’s charity partner, Football Futures Foundation, and it was through the Foundation that he was appointed head coach of the WA Paras State Team. Late last year, he led the side to a first national title.

“That was an unbelievable experience, especially for the people who have been in the Paras program for a long time and seen them go close so often,” he said.

Another coaching role he enjoyed in 2025 was at the Emerging Socceroos Championships with the Charles Perkins XI – Football Australia’s First Nations youth football program. It was something close to his heart.

“That was fantastic, and being indigenous, I would love to do some work in the regions and work with young indigenous children through football,” Williams said.

“It would be great to support the regional CPOs (community participation officers) and deliver sessions with these kids. That’s something I’m extremely passionate about.

“There is plenty to be excited about in this role. After I finished at Perth Glory last year, I had some other great opportunities, but I am more passionate about my role within Football West. This is different.

“It’s also great to stay in Perth. I’m originally from Brisbane but I love Perth. This is by far the best place for me, my wife and two children.”
