A week before the big guns of AC Milan and AS Roma grace Optus Stadium, WA fans get to sample the antipasto at the more homely setting of Hilton Park.
This Saturday’s NPLWA – Men’s Round Nine encounter between Fremantle City and Perth SC is the centrepiece of the 70th anniversary celebrations for East Fremantle Tricolore Soccer Club, the former WA powerhouse that was a forerunner of current day Fremantle City.
Tricolore won six league titles between 1958 and 1972, including three years straight from 1963 to 65, and lifted the prestigious D’Orsogna Cup seven times.
During this time, they enjoyed a fantastic rivalry with Perth Azzurri, another Italian-heritage club from which Perth Soccer Club originated and with whom Tricolore’s senior team joined forces in the late 1980s in a vain attempt to be admitted to the National Soccer League.

To mark the 70th anniversary, City will wear a retro Tricolore kit, while the teams will play for the East Fremantle Tricolore v Perth Azzurri D’Orsogna Cup.
Fremantle City president Tony Estrano said: “We are encouraging all past Tricolore members to come down for the festivities on May 25. It’s going to be a fantastic day and a great opportunity to celebrate that history, which is a foundation of our club and inspires as we continue to build that legacy.”
Saturday’s match kicks off at 3pm with the formalities beginning at 1.30pm.
