Hahn Australia Cup: Football West's final four bid for national glory

The two teams representing Football West on the national stage of the 2025 Hahn Australia Cup will be determined this week.
Stirling Macedonia, from the NPL, host State League Division One side Inglewood United in tonight’s WA Preliminary Round Seven tie. Tomorrow, it’s an all-NPL affair as Balcatta Etna meet Olympic Kingsway. Both matches will be streamed live and free on Streamer.
This week’s Australia Cup matches also serve as semi-finals for the Men’s State Cup, with the winning teams advancing to the final at the Sam Kerr Football Centre on 30 August.

Stirling are chasing a place in the Round of 32 for the first time since 2014, the competition’s inaugural season in its current format. Eleven years ago, Stirling landed a prestigious clash against then A-League champions Brisbane Roar, losing 4-0 at the WA Athletics Stadium.
Ago Mujic’s side have defeated Forrestfield United 3-0, Kingsley Westside 7-1 and Western Knights on penalties to reach this stage.
Inglewood have also advanced to the national rounds once before, two years ago when they lost 5-0 in Adelaide by North Eastern MetroStars. Under head coach Cam Lord, Inglewood have made an indifferent start to life in the State League following their relegation from the top flight. However, it has been a different story in the Australia Cup. After a comfortable 4-2 win over regional team Bunbury Dynamos, they eliminated fellow Division One side Gwelup Croatia on penalties. This was followed by a fine 3-2 victory against NPL side Fremantle City, before they stunned unbeaten NPL leaders Bayswater City 2-0 at Frank Drago Reserve.

Balcatta have yet to reach the national stage of the competition, something head coach Glen Gostrate will be eager to rectify. Gostrate joined the club three years ago, shortly after they were knocked out of the Australia Cup by Amateur side Emerald FC, and victory tomorrow will be a great reward for his efforts. They began this year’s campaign by defeating Wembley Downs 4-0, followed by a 4-2 win at Floreat Athena. Last time out, they triumphed over MUM FC 2-1.
As for Olympic Kingsway, their Australia Cup tale is fresh in the minds of their supporters. Last year, the Green Machine became only the second Football West side to advance beyond the Round of 32 when they overcame NSW outfit Edgeworth Eagles 4-1. Their impressive run was halted by A-League side Adelaide United, 3-2 at a packed Kingsway Reserve. David Tough’s team have reached the Preliminary last four having beaten fellow NPL teams Armadale (5-2) and Perth SC (4-2), along with a 3-0 win against Division One Subiaco.
- The draw for the Round 32 matches will take place on Wednesday 25 June
