NPL Night Series winners Sorrento FC suffered an upset loss in the Hahn Australia Cup on Saturday after they threw away a 3-0 lead to crash out 5-3 at home to State League Division One Subiaco.
The Gulls made a blistering start and were three up inside 20 minutes thanks to two goals by Keegan Chambers and one from Dean Cummings. And though Kaleb Morrison pulled one back via the penalty spot before the break, there was no sign of the late drama to ensue. However, after Morrison grabbed his second on 71 minutes, Subi grew in belief and the visitors were level soon after as Morrison completed his hat-trick with another penalty. Sorrento were suddenly on the ropes and Subi delivered the KO with two late goals, first from Alexandre Coelho and then from his fellow substitute Tarek Atta.

State Cup holders Olympic Kingsway are through to the last 16 of the WA rounds after they beat Armadale 5-2 at Kingsway Reserve. Olympic didn't look back after racing into a 3-0 lead by half an hour thanks to goals from Harley Orr, Tyler Garner and Jayden Gorman. Armadale were given some hope early in the second half through Amir Ajan, only for the Green Machine to hit back with goals for Ronan Dowling and Luke Hewings. Pieter Jacobsz got a late consolation for the Army.
Josh Hunter was the hero for Floreat Athena who won on penalties at Perth RedStar following a 1-1 draw. The Floreat keeper scored the winner in the shoot-out having previously excelled between the sticks. Floreat went ahead in the opening minute of the game through Andrew Palmer’s own goal, with Matty George levelling for RedStar nine minutes later.
