The Hyundai Football West Academy Girls Program has finalised its four squads for the 2026 season.

The selections were made following trials held in October.

Football West Football Development Officer Andrew Ord said: “Well done to the players who have been chosen, and thanks to all the players who tried out and the parents who brought them down.

“We were very pleased with the trials, as they showed us that we are starting to get more depth in each age group.

“It is essential that we get fresh faces each year, as it keeps everyone currently in the program on their toes. It also shows that if you miss out one year, then keep coming back as the door is never closed, players develop physically, mentally and technically at different rates.”

Looking ahead to next year, Ord said the Girls Academy was in a good place.

“After reviewing last season, we feel the competitions in which each age group plays give the players the appropriate challenge. Girls playing against boys while they are U13 and U14 works well, then at U15 and U16 progressing into the NPLW U21 competition helps them prepare for the Emerging Matildas Championships.

“In addition, having 17-year-olds who are part of the Junior Matildas provides role models for the younger players to aspire to.

“We also provide an opportunity to a handful of U18 players who have the potential to be professional players. This gives those girls the opportunity to display leadership skills and the responsibility of driving the culture of continual improvement.”

Ord revealed former Perth Glory A-League Women’s defender Izzy Foletta would be joining the Academy coaching staff.

“We are really pleased to retain the majority of staff who bought in and helped reshape the direction of the Hyundai Football West Academy last year,” he said. “Additionally, we secured the services of former professional Izzy Foletta to coach the U13 girls in 2026.”

What is the Hyundai Football West Academy Girls Program?

The Football West Academy is integrated with Football Australia and forms Football West’s advanced pathway program.

This provides a comprehensive training environment for talented girls aged 12 to 18, aimed at enhancing the technical skills, tactical understanding and high-performance behaviours.

Full-time Academy players train three times a week, while Membership players who are at clubs train with the Academy teams once a week.

All coaches within the Academy hold a minimum AFC-Football Australia B Diploma, ensuring players have access to appropriately skilled, qualified and experienced coaches throughout their pathway journey.
