East Perth have struck a blow in the race for the Belt Up Amateur Premier Division title and possible promotion to the Men’s State League.

With league leaders Jaguar held 1-1 by lowly Joondalup United, East Perth beat Maddington White City 1-0 to leapfrog Sunday’s opponents and climb into second place. Oscar Kelly’s back-post header from a corner seven minutes into the second half won them the game.

Jaguar got off to a flying start at Beldon Park, with Malek Domkoc netting in only the sixth minute. But Gareth Davies quickly levelled and that was how it stayed.

That result has also opened the door for fourth-placed Kwinana United, who struck late through Morgan Walters as they won 1-0 at Wembley Downs.

The top three have four matches remaining, with Jaguar on 40 points, East Perth 38 and Maddington 37.

Kwinana are on 34 points but they do have a game in hand. Jaguar and Kwinana both have to face East Perth and Maddington in the run-in.

Despite their excellent point against the leaders, Joondalup dropped to the bottom thanks to Queens Park’s 3-2 victory at Emerald. Alexander Fazekas got the winner two minutes from the end.

Elsewhere, Peel United won 5-3 at North Perth United while Kelmscott Roos downed Quinns 4-1.
