Kingsley two from two in State League

Kingsley Westside defeated previous leaders Mandurah City 3-1 to make it two wins from two to start the State League Division One season.

Ben Andrews’ side host Curtin University in a Round Two catch-up game on Tuesday night where a win would see them go top of the league, while Mandurah have dropped to third and level on points with Saturday’s opponents.

The Dolphins led just past the half-hour mark when Kristers Zaluzinskis’ free-kick deceived Isaac Driessen in the hosts’ goal and flew into the back of the net.

But the home side were on level terms just before half-time when Max Adamson’s header from a corner came off the bar and Jack Roberts’ follow-up was only kept out because Lee Blackburn handled on the line. Blackburn was shown a red card and Adamson converted the penalty to make it 1-1 at the break.

Kingsley then made use of their extra man advantage with two second-half goals. Jon Hulme volleyed in Ben Wyeth’s cross on 64 minutes to put them in front, before Xavier Medica slotted in a late sealer near the end as Kingsley continued their bright start to 2026.

The current leaders are Floreat Athena who drew 0-0 with Inglewood United on Thursday to sit a point clear having played a game more.

The repeat of this season’s State League Night Series final, which Athena won 4-1, saw Alun Vernals’ side play for 55 minutes with 10 men after Harvey Tomlinson’s red card.

Floreat hit the post in the first half while Inglewood nearly won it but Rostyn Griffiths saw his goal in stoppage time ruled out by the officials as they remain without a win in their opening three matches.

Quinns are fourth early doors after picking up a 1-1 draw away at Murdoch University Melville.

Gustavo Marulanda continued his excellent start to the season with another goal as he headed Ed Wynne-Willson’s cross into the top corner on 76 minutes.

The visitors, who twice hit the woodwork, earned a deserved share of the spoils with five minutes to play when Luke Garas charged down Adam Fields’ clearance in the penalty area.

Last year’s runners-up UWA Nedlands are off the mark in season 2026 after winning 4-2 away at Cockburn City on Thursday night.

UWA’s Joe McInnes and Matt Bowen of Cockburn traded goals in the opening quarter-of-an-hour as both sides hit the interval locked at 1-1.

McInnes got his second just after the restart when beating Cockburn stopper Ben Radonich to Luke Salas’ through ball and slotting into a vacant net.

Mark Baeursachs’ cross was played into his own net by Cockerels defender Nicolas Santalucia to extend Uni’s lead, but an own goal at the other end from Lewis Nohar gave the hosts a lifeline.

Sebastian Hooshangian raced clear late in the piece to beat the goalkeeper one on one and finally secure the points for UWA.

Gwelup Croatia also picked up their first win after edging out Curtin University 1-0 at Edinburgh Oval.

Toby Wright was named new head coach for Gwelup after Basil Lenzo departed to join Balcatta earlier in the week. His side got the game’s only goal on four minutes when Jacob Rossi with back to goal teed up Baptiste Pullain who hammered home from just outside the box.

Declan Tanna had a chance to earn a point for Curtin later in the half, but saw his penalty saved by Rocco Liberti as the home side drop to the bottom after results on Saturday.

Finally, Subiaco defeated Joondalup City 2-0 in the northern suburbs to move off the foot of the table.

Ivan Skorich had Subi off to a fast start after five minutes, before Nishan Alagoda put in Kaleb Morrison’s cross from close range in the second half.

City had the chance to pull one back near the end from the spot but Riccardo Mazzoleni dived low to his right to preserve his clean sheet.

In Division Two, Rockingham City are the new leaders after a 3-0 win over Kalamunda City saw them maintain a 100% record after three matches.

Joe Moss, Tom Kinnane and Raphael Gomba got the goals in the first half to move their side two points clear of Wembley Downs who were held to a goalless draw at Forrestfield United.

Ashfield stay third after fighting back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Carramar Shamrock Rovers. Alex Connolly and Nathan Diaz had Rovers two up at the break before Jack Kiama pulled one back midway through the second half.

Connolly’s second yellow card saw the hosts reduced to 10 men, but they couldn’t hold on for all three points as Deng Dut’s 92nd minute penalty earned Ashfield a draw. Jackson Dongray’s late red meant both teams finished with 10 men.
