Knights hit five to open State League gap

Western Knights moved four points clear at the top of Men’s State League Division One after a thumping 5-0 win away at Murdoch University Melville.
Alex Kretowicz scored twice in the statement win at Besteam Stadium as Knights remain unbeaten with the league’s best attack and defence.
First-half goals from Shay Donovan and Albert Luwi set Knights on their way before Kretowicz registered two goals in 10 minutes early in the second period.
Paul Lloyd added a fifth with nine minutes to play as Knights collected a fifth win in six to become the division’s team to catch.
MUM FC drop to fourth after their first loss of the campaign.
In the evening kick-off, Mandurah City cruised to a 3-0 win away at Rockingham City which saw them move into second spot, while the hosts remain second bottom.
Leigh Griffiths got the scoring under way with a spectacular free-kick from 30 yards four minutes before the half-time whistle.
John Baird’s side added two more in the second period. Joe O’Brien’s cross was finished low into the corner by Sam Byrne to double the lead, then soon after Shaun Mukwevho’s twist and strike was blocked into the path of O’Brien who got his customary goal and continued a run of netting in every game so far this season.

Fremantle City also went above MUM FC in the standings as they went third with a 1-0 win over Forrestfield United.
It was a better defensive performance from United who shipped six last week, but one goal was enough for Freo with Hamza Hina’s perfectly weighted reverse pass finished low across the goalkeeper by Ollie La Galia.
Gwelup Croatia continued their strong recent run as they came from behind to defeat UWA Nedlands 2-1 on the road.
Trim Morgan’s team are unbeaten since an opening day loss to leaders Knights, but they trailed early on when Alfred Moore scored for a second straight home game.
In-form Charlie Breen got on the end of Loic Anga’s cross to put Gwelup level at half-time. And the marksman would make it nine goals in three matches to give the away side all three points when he latched onto a ball over the top and banged a first-time volley over the opposition goalkeeper.
Joondalup United picked up a second big win in as many weeks, their 4-0 victory at Subiaco moving them into the league’s top half.
Nick Jennings’ side, who are only a point off the inter-divisional play-offs,took the lead at Rosalie Park on half-an-hour when Ben Johns’ header came off the post and Jay Lang bundled in on the line.
Johns made sure he was credited with the visitors’ second against his former club, as he headed in Vlad Naumovski’s cross from the right.
Naumovski turned in a third from Andrew Flint’s layoff early in the second half and a fourth was netted by Lang from the penalty spot after Johns was fouled in the box when through on goal.

Finally, Tyron Pottier’s 95th-minute equaliser gave Gosnells City a 2-2 draw with Dianella White Eagles which extended their unbeaten run to four games.
James Burns turned away from two defenders to slot firmly into the corner and the hosts were further boosted by a straight red card shown to Dianella’s Asa Sippits.
But White Eagles would go ahead despite being a player down with Igor Cvijanovic’s free kick which looped over everyone and then Angel Andres Rivera’s penalty.
Dianella could not hold on for a first win since round three though as Pottier struck for a second successive week, rising highest from a corner five minutes into added time and earning Gosnells a point.

Gosnells City 2-2 Dianella White Eagles

Alex Galipo and Luke Salmon added to the tally in the second period to ensure Kingsley’s lead sits at three points going into next week’s top-of-the-table clash with Morley Windmills.
Windmills moved up to second as four individual scorers got on the board in a 4-1 win at Swan United.
