Mackay stars but WA State Futsal sides miss out on national glory

There was plenty of pride but ultimately disappointment for the three Football West sides competing in the 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships grand finals.

The WA Boys U12s, U14s and U15s were all looking to be crowned national champions at the Gold Coast Sport and Leisure Centre.

But it was not to be for the West Aussies, with all three teams having to settle for second place.

The U12s, coached by Umbi Di Tullio, were first in action against Queensland White, the only team to beat them in the pool stage. That meeting was a one-sided affair in favour of the hosts, but today was a different story as the two teams both went for it. In the end, Queensland edged the game 1-0 with a goal in the second half.

Next up were the WA U14s, who were coached by Anthony Fico. They also impressed but were unable to prevent Queensland Maroon claiming a 3-1 victory.

Finally, the WA U15s took to the court. Chris Castro's side again had a good go but found NSW Thunder too strong. Thunder won the game 6-2.

There was an individual honour for WA, with Lucy Mackay named Girls U15 Player of the Tournament and making the Junior Girls Team of the Tournament.

Football West finished third overall, with NSW crowned Member Federation champions.
