Mid West trip proves a success

Football West Football Development Officer Gareth Naven has praised the work being done with junior football in Carnarvon.

Naven was in the Mid West this week, helping run school clinics and programs in both the Gascoyne and Geraldton.

He and Community Participation Administration Officer Tanya Amazzini visited Carnarvon Christian School, then worked with the Carnarvon Junior Soccer Association on its Skill Acquisition Program. They also met the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

“There is a lot of good work being done in Carnarvon with the young players,” Naven said.

“We visited the town earlier this year to help them restructure their SAP program and it was good to see how well they are implementing these ideas.

“At the school, we ran clinics with Years 1-2, the Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and it was good to see the numbers involved and how engaged the children were.

“We then joined the SAP and MiniRoos coach Rachel Baxter. They are putting together some good coaching sessions and growing the program. It is also great that they are being flexible with their playing format.”
