New U8s Girls Only competition attracts good numbers
Football West’s call for expressions of interest from clubs looking to field a side in a new Under 8s Girls Only competition has been well received.
We already have 16 clubs registering their interest to field a team when the competition begins in 2022.
Football West Manager - Female Football and Advocacy Sarah du Plessis said: “The build-up towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup has a significant impact within the community, with increased visibility of the game and legacy plan.
“Junior football participation has seen continued growth within the WA community and its clubs. The introduction of an Under 8s Girls Only MiniRoos League in 2022 is an important building block for junior girls' pathways at clubs and allows for young female players to have the option to play in a girls team or a mixed team.
“An important success factor is the growth of grassroots MiniRoos, junior participation and pathways. As one of the largest community sports and with the increased growth of girls and female participation, the introduction of the league will see the continued focus in developing strong pathways while making the game accessible and a great experience for all.”
