NPLM Night Series Round Three preview

The NPLWA – Men’s Night Series continues this weekend with Round Three fixtures at Frank Drago Reserve, Macedonia Park and Alfred Skeet Reserve.

On Saturday night at Frank Drago, Fremantle City will look to turn around their slow start when they face Perth Glory. Freo have lost their first two matches while third-place Glory hit back from an opening round defeat with victory against Balcatta Etna.

This is followed by the match between hosts Bayswater City and Balcatta, also in Group A. Baysie started with a win against Glory before going down to Olympic Kingsway last week. Balcatta are still to get off the mark.

At the same time on Saturday at Macedonia Park is a double-header from Group B, where the top three sides all sit on four points with the same goal difference.

Two of those meet in the first match as Perth SC take on Sorrento FC. The Azzurri rallied from 2-0 down last week to draw with Stirling Macedonia, David Ninkovich levelling deep in stoppage time. Meanwhile, new signing Joe O’Brien has started well for Sorrento with three goals in the opening two games.

Then home side Stirling, the third team at the top, meet Floreat Athena who have drawn one and lost one.

The final two matches in Round Three are on Sunday at Alfred Skeet, including a Group A encounter between the only sides still with a 100% record.

Hosts Armadale have made a great start, beating both Balcatta and Fremantle 4-1. Goal machine Pieter Jacobsz added to his four-goal return from week one with another against Freo to lead the scoring chart. Olympic had a big win over Bayswater last week as new midfield recruit Laat Mathiang struck for the second successive game.

This precedes the Group B tie between Night Series holders Perth RedStar and Western Knights. RedStar are another team still seeking their first point while Knights had a solid 3-0 win over Floreat last time out to move up to fourth.
