Pearl's a winger - aged 101

Think you’re too old to play football? Read on …

Football West has been delivering its Walking Football program at aged care homes and other residential centres.

In total, there have been 20 sessions to around 150 people. And in the process, we have unearthed a new talent in 101-year-old Pearl Williams!

Pearl and her fellow residents at Archbishop Goody Residential Care in East Perth took part in a recent session.

A spokesperson for Archbishop Goody said: “Pearl is our eldest resident … she is turning 102 in December. She is so active and she really enjoyed the Walking Football. Appreciation and compliments to both coaches and we hope to see them again.”

It has been a similar story elsewhere, with lots of smiling faces and positive feedback.

Program Lead Rob Lund said: “It has been a great experience for our team to go into these centres and for the Walking Football program to be so well received. I’d like to congratulate our coaches Alec, Emily and Louise who have been terrific running the sessions.”
