The first of three Australia Cup games in a week involving WA teams takes place tonight as Perth RedStar face Queensland NPL outfit Lions FC at Percy Doyle Reserve (6.30pm).
This is followed by Saturday’s all-A-League clash at the Sam Kerr Football Centre between Perth Glory and Melbourne City.
Then next Tuesday at Kingsway Reserve, Olympic Kingsway are up against Northern NSW side Edgeworth Eagles.
RedStar, the reigning NPLWA – Men’s champions, are in the thick of another title race despite a weekend setback against Stirling Macedonia, their first loss in 12 games.
Callum Salmon’s side have good recent memories of tonight’s venue, beating host club Sorrento FC in the previous round thanks to Liam Reddy’s dramatic penalty save in the last minute of extra-time.
RedStar last reached this stage in 2021, under the ECU Joondalup name. A win tonight will see RedStar become the second Football West team to make the last 16. The only other side were Sorrento in 2017.
