Football West and our partners at Paydirt Media would like to thank to everybody who came down to Wellington Square, near Perth CBD, on Thursday night for the 2023 Africa Down Under Cup.
We had teams representing the African communities of Morocco, Burundi, Sudan, Eritrea, Nigeria, South Sudan, Algeria, Gabon and South Africa, as well as sides for Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine, Australia and the Common Goal program.
Congratulations to our winning teams, South Africa (women) and Palestine (men).

We would like to acknowledge our team sponsors who help make this event possible: Auramet, Walkabout Resources, BDO, Ionic Rare Earths, Perenti, Intertek, Bill Johnston MLA, EcoGraf, West African Resources, Base Resources, Atlantic Lithium and Paydirt Media.
Thanks also to the special guests, including the High Commissioner of Nigeria Anderson Madubike, Minister for Mines and Petroleum Hon. Bill Johnston MLA, City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zemplas, Football West Chairman Sherif Andrawes and Paydirt Executive Chairman Bill Repard.
And a word for the AKWAABA African Drumming Art and Craft, WA Police and the match officials who all contributed to the success of the event.
The Africa Down Under Cup is an annual five-a-side event which sees teams from across Perth’s African communities compete in men’s and women’s tournaments in a celebration of Perth’s African football culture.
The Africa Down Under Cup coincides with the annual Africa Down Under Mining conference, which is aimed at raising awareness of Australia’s interests in African mining and energy.
