The Belt Up Amateur Premier Division is heading for a thrilling climax after East Perth threw the title race wide open with a 3-0 win over leaders Jaguar.

Jaguar remain top on 43 points with two matches left, with Maddington White City and East Perth second and third respectively on 41.

Kwinana United are also in with a shout of the title. They sit fourth, three points behind Maddington and East Perth but with a game in hand. They also have a best goal difference of the top four.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, this weekend it is first-versus-second and third-v-fourth, as Jaguar host Maddington and East Perth travel to Kwinana.

If last Sunday’s Round 20 results had gone differently, Jaguar could have gone into the final two rounds with their feet up, celebrating being crowned champions and promotion to the Men’s State League.

Instead, they have been dragged back to the pack and defeat to Maddington will see them lose their place at the summit.

Last week they were up against an East Perth team who knew nothing other than three points at Inglewood Stadium would do following their heavy loss to Kelmscott Roos the previous round.

Colm Costello’s side went in front on 37 minutes through Mehdi Rabei Gholami, Oscar Kelly scored a second 10 minutes into the second half, and Gholami made the game safe soon after.

Maddington stayed firmly in contention with a 3-2 victory over Kelmscott 3-2 at Mills Park. Jose Zuniga was the star for City, scoring a hat-trick including the opener from around 40 yards.

Meanwhile, two goals from Wayne Carter and one from Dean Couling were enough for Kwinana to beat Quinns 3-1.

Quinns are now bottom, two points behind Joondalup United although with two games in hand. Joondalup beat North Perth United 2-0, while third-bottom Queens Park enjoyed a 2-0 win at Peel United.

An Andrew Wood double helped Emerald to a 3-0 win at Wembley Downs.

Belt Up Amateur Premier Division results

Maddington White City might be going for the title, but they were the victims of one of two upsets in the Belt Up Amateur Cup semi-finals last night.

City were the only Premier Division side to reach the last four, but that meant nothing to first division South Perth United who dumped them out 3-0 at E&D Litis Stadium.

There was also a shock in the other semi at Wotton Reserve, as Joondanna Blues from Division Four defeated first division Maccabi 1-0 . Travis Preston scored the goal.
