Title race goes down to last game with Perth AFC on top

Perth AFC head into the final round of the Hyundai Women's League Division One season knowing a win over Hamersley Rovers will see them crowned champions.

The league leaders are one point clear of Subiaco and Fremantle City, with Mandurah City a point further back.

Perth AFC played first this weekend and put the pressure on their rivals with a 2-0 win against UWA Nedlands on Friday night. Daisy Spill netted after only three minutes with Amanda Smith getting the second on 64 minutes.

Subi, who have by far the best goal difference, won 7-0 at Sorrento FC with Sally Rojahn scoring six to move three goals ahead of teammate Amy Buchanan in the race for the Golden Boot. Charlotte Thomas scored the seventh for Subi, who head to UWA for their final game needing to better Perth AFC's result if they are to take the title.

The two other teams in title contention will face each other as Mandurah host Fremantle. A second-half goal by Zoe Andrijich gave Fremantle a 1-0 win over Hamersley, who are now unable to retain the league.

Mandurah had a more comfortable afternoon, with Melanie Paschkewitz (3), Lola Price (2), Jessica May (2), Georgia Aiesi (2), Cassidy Moyle and Amy Terrell all on target in an 11-0 drubbing of MUM FC.
